Since its creation in 1996, Walmer Town Council has pushed to create and maintain green spaces throughout the parish. Starting with the purchase of Hawkshill Freedown from the Leith Estate in 1999.
This has included the purchase of the land off of York and Albany Close, an area that has since been transformed into Walmer Peace Gardens as well as The Drill Field on Canada Road. Walmer Council also maintains areas such as the Campbell Road Allotments, Stoney Path, an area of reclaimed land behind the allotments and sometime soon land behind the residences at Churchill Avenue.
Campbell Road Allotments – Campbell Road
Stoney Path – Campbell Road
Walmer Peace Garden – York & Albany Close
Urban Nature Reserve – Churchill Avenue
There are other but no less important green spaces throughout the town, from Walmer Green along the seafront, to the playing fields at Marke Wood, to the fields around Walmer Castle. Spaces both large and small can be found throughout the area, some tended to by locals, others by Dover District Council or Kent County Council.
