Haymaking at Hawkshill Freedown 2026

This year’s annual haymaking at Hawkshill Freedown will be continuing on 11th October 2026, everyone is welcome to come along and help out. Volunteers from groups as well as those coming solo will be there, giving a hand to rake up the grass and enjoying the work in the meadow.

So if you would like to come along then we aim to start at 10am and finish by 11am, if we can’t quite get finished in one day than we’ll be there again during the weekend. The only thing you’ll need to bring is a rake and a pair of gardening gloves and volunteers and members of the council will be there to show you around and let you know what going on.

Haymaking at Hawkshill Freedown 2026 - Walmer Town Council

Hawkshill Freedown is located behind Walmer Castle, there are several entrances into the Glen from both sides. The car park can be found at the junction of Gram's Road and Liverpool Road, members of Hawkshill Volunteers will be there to meet you at 10am onwards from the 24th through to the end of the cutting season.
